About TMJ Disorders

A TMJ disorder refers to the dysfunction of the jaw joint. This could mean an issue with the jawbone, the cartilage of the joints, the muscles, or even the nerves of the jaw. When this happens, it results in jawpain, clicking, grinding, and popping. In some cases, people with TMJ may experience lockjaw.

TMJ disorders are more common than you may think. It's been estimated that up to 10 million Americans suffer from a TMJ disorder.

Common Causes of TMJ Disorders

There are many different causes of TMJ disorders to consider. In some cases, the TMJ disorder is the result of poor dental alignment. The misalignment of the teeth can lead to issues with the bite that, over time, affect the proper function of the jaw. Teeth grinding (bruxism) can also lead to TMJ disorders given the long-term stress placed on the jaw and the jaw joint.

There have been some cases in which injuries to the face can lead to TMJ disorders, particularly after suffering trauma to the jaw. On top of this, some TMJ disorders are linked to osteoarthritis in old age, which can be made worse as a result of any of the other causes we previously listed.

What Is TruDenta®?

Ideal Candidates for TruDenta®

The best candidates for TruDenta® are people who suffer from TMJ disorders that cause serious pain and discomfort. We will discuss these symptoms in greater detail and then initiate an analysis of your situation.

TruDenta®: Diagnosis and Custom Therapy

The TruDenta® system uses special computer analysis in order to track the motion of your jaw and the force of your bite. The data received can help us understand the nature of your jaw movement and what challenges you may be facing. In addition to the computer model analysis, we will also discuss your symptoms and what may have caused them as well as examining your teeth, you head, your mouth, and your neck.

From here, we can then develop a multi-week, in-office treatment session thatuses sports dentistry therapy techniques, ultrasound, intraoral orthodontics, and other non-surgical approaches to treatment. These are all tailored to tackle your TMJ disorder.
