A smile makeover is a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses various dental imperfections. It can address tooth discoloration and misalignment issues, along with any cosmetic issues that affect the gums. Tooth Discoloration

Tooth discoloration is perhaps the most common complaint that we hear from our patients. During your exam, we will determine if you have external or internal tooth discoloration. External stains respond well to our in-office and at-home teeth whitening treatments. Internal stains may not respond to the bleaching solution, which is designed to lift surface stains. In these cases, we may recommend porcelain veneers or dental bonding to mask the stains and give the teeth a brighter, whiter appearance.

Misalignment

Misalignment is another common concern among patients. Misalignment may result in crowding, a twisted tooth, overbite, underbite, or gapped teeth. These issues can be corrected with orthodontic treatment such as traditional braces or Invisalign®. Invisalign® can correct minor to moderate orthodontic problems, while braces are generally recommended in more extensive cases. We can also cover misalignment issues with porcelain veneers. Veneers may be recommended if you have minor crowding or gaps between the teeth.

Chips or Cracks

Minor chips or cracks can be masked with porcelain veneers or filled in with dental bonding material. However, if you have a large chip or crack that compromises the strength of the tooth, we may place a porcelain crown to restore its health.

Excess or Uneven Gum Tissue

The manner in which the gums frame the teeth plays an important role in the appearance of the smile. Some patients show an excess amount of gum tissue when they smile; this can cause the teeth to look disproportionately small and result in a gummy smile. Other patients may have an uneven gum line, which can make the teeth look uneven or misshaped. We can perform the laser gum reshaping procedure to reduce the amount of gum tissue that shows when a patient smiles, or to even out the gum line.

Are You a Candidate?

If you have multiple cosmetic issues that you wish to address, you may be a good candidate for a smile makeover. Our dentists will recommend two or more treatments to improve the appearance of your smile. For example, you may wish to undergo teeth whitening and Invisalign® treatment, or porcelain veneers and laser gum reshaping treatment.

To undergo a smile makeover plan, your teeth and gums must be in good health. If we identify dental problems during your initial exam, we will recommend restorative treatment to improve your oral health.
